Lindsay Sanneman
I am a postdoctoral associate working with Professor Julie Shah in the Interactive Robotics Group and Professor Dylan Hadfield-Menell in the Algorithmic Alignment Group at MIT. In my research, I aim to enhance the process of human-AI alignment through the application of techniques for human-centered explainable AI (XAI) and AI transparency. My primary areas of expertise span artificial intelligence, robotics, human-robot interaction, and human factors. I also have enjoyed interdisciplinary research opportunities and believe strongly that interdisciplinary approaches are key to developing grounded, ethical, and effective technical solutions.

I was selected as a Future Leader in Aerospace and participated in the symposium!
I presented my work on the Situation Awareness Framework for Explainable AI (SAFE-AI) at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) New and Emerging Aviation Technologies (NEAT) seminar series.

Our paper "Validating Metrics for Reward Alignment in Human-Autonomy Teaming" was published in Computers in Human Behavior.

I am excited to join the Siegel Research Fellows Program as a fellow for the 2022-2023 academic year! The cohort of fellows will conduct research broadly at the intersection of social science and technology, with a focus on questions around intelligence, information, innovation, development, decisions and design.

Our paper "An Empirical Study of Reward Explanations with Human-Robot Interaction Applications" was accepted to the Robotics and Automation Letters (RA-L) journal. This paper was presented at IROS 2022 in Kyoto, Japan.

I was a panelist on the "Old Problems, New Research Generations" panel at the Industry Studies Association conference along with Work of the Future research team colleagues: MIT Institute Professor of Political Science Suzanne Berger, MIT Emeritus Professor of Economics Michael Piore, executive director of the Industrial Performance Center at MIT Ben Armstrong, and Professor of Government at UT Austin Rachel Wellhausen.
I was a panelist on the "The Future of Manufacturing: Innovation, Automation, and Skills" panel at the Industry Studies Association conference. This panel was chaired by Elisabeth Reynolds, our Ohio Research Team colleague and the Special Assistant to the President for Manufacturing and Economic Development in the National Economic Council.
